SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team participated in the Northern California Golf Association's (NCGA) youth clinic, mentoring young players at La Rinconada Country Club. The event was organized by the NCGA Foundation and it featured youth golfers from the First Tee program of San Jose, with additional support provided by Santa Clara alumnus La Rinconada's head golf professional Andy Kimball.

"We all look forward to the opportunity to help these kids and further their enthusiasm for the game of golf," said Santa Clara Head Coach Rob Miller. "All the guys on the team love working with the kids. It reminds them of their roots in getting started with the game of golf."

Miller and his Bronco players, worked with the junior golfers, rotating through stations that covered the short game, irons and the driver. The youth also had time to get some one-on-one instruction from the Broncos on how to improve their individual game.

Santa Clara finished their fall season placing among the top-10 in all five tournaments it entered. Included was a team championship at the Desert Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Wyoming. Redshirt junior Scott Travers, who is ranked 60th in the nation, has also placed in the top-10 in every event.

The First Tee of San Jose is a Chapter of a World Golf Foundation initiative dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop character-education through golf and to learn life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. Their mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. The First Tee also partners with the Champions Tour every Labor Day weekend at Pebble Beach for the Wal-Mart First Tee Open. Seventy-eight junior golfers are awarded spots to play with the Champions Tour players.

The NCGA Foundation was founded in 1989 and is a charitable organization that provides deserving youth the opportunity to develop life skills and values through golf. The Foundation will continue to increase the availability and affordability of youth golf through its flagship initiative, Youth on Course.
