SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a break for the holidays, Santa Clara women's basketball returns to action Thursday at 4 p.m. at Portland. Last week the Broncos went to Moraga and beat Saint Mary's 73-67 to extend their winning streak to the second longest in program history.

The last time the Broncos had a winning streak of 11 games was when from Jan. 30-March 12, 1993.

Its 11-2 start is the best for Santa Clara since beginning the 2001-02 season 12-2.

Santa Clara (11-2, 2-0 WCC) is outscoring teams 68.4-57.1 and outrebounding opponents 42.1-32.7. The Broncos shoot 40.7 percent (315 of 774) from the field and have hit 47 3-pointers. Their defense forces 24.8 turnovers per game and the team collects 13.8 steals per game.

Morgan McGwire leads the team with 13.0 points per game and is second in the conference while shooting 55.4 percent (72 of 130) from the field. She is second with 6.5 rebounds per game and is tied for the team lead with 15 blocks. Lori Parkinson leads the way with 6.8 rpg and is second with 11.3 ppg. She is tied with McGwire with 15 blocks. Savanna Hanson's 2.7 assists per game leads the Broncos and she is scoring 10.2 ppg with 14 3-pointers to lead the team. She is also second in the WCC with 32 steals and 2.5 per game. Taylor Berry leads the WCC with 2.8 steals per game and is scoring 7.4 ppg to go with 3.5 rpg. Her 27 total setals are also No.1 nationally.

Santa Clara is 38-30 all-time vs. Portland with the first meeting coming in 1986-87. Last season the Broncos topped the Pilots three times, including a 66-58 win in the West Coast Conference tournament.

Portland (2-11, 0-2 WCC) is being outscored 75.0-58.5 on the season and outrebounded 40.0-34.2. The Pilots are shooting 38.6 percent (280 of 725) from the field and 32.7 percent (73 of 223) from beyond the arc.

Ellie Woerner leads Portland with 11.9 ppg while hitting 17 3-pointers and has added 3.8 rpg. Ashley Gray is the top rebounder on the team with 4.0 per game and scores 5.8 ppg. Kaylie Van Loo leads Portland with 3.0 apg and scores 7.5 ppg. Holly Blades is the biggest threat from deep, with 21 3-pointers made.
