Former Women's Basketball Coach Ken Thompson Passes Away

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Former Santa Clara women's basketball head coach Ken Thompson has passed away according to the Mercury News. Thompson, 61, lived in Redwood City.

Thompson coached the Broncos from 1978-88 and won 112 games. His career high of 15 wins in 1985-86 was the most in program history at the time. His win total is second among all Santa Clara women's basketball head coaches and his 11 seasons at the helm are also second-most all-time.

In his final year, he coached Dorinda Lindstrom, who won WCC Player of the Year honors that season. In all, Thompson help eight players receive All-WCC accolades with Lindstrom and Suzy Meckenstock taking home First Team honors.

Thompson is survived by his wife, his mother Joan Thompson, mother-in-law Joan Burdick and two sisters.
