Women's Basketball Looks To Continue Winning Ways vs. San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Sitting in a tie atop the West Coast Conference standings, Santa Clara women's basketball hosts perennial WCC title contender San Diego to Leavey Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Broncos went on the road to beat Portland 56-44 on Thursday and returned home to top LMU 71-64 on Saturday.

Santa Clara is 33-37 all-time vs. San Diego and 19-14 in Leavey. The first meeting came during the 1984-85 season. Last year both teams won on each other's home floor. The Bronco win snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Toreros.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (8-7, 3-1 WCC) is scoring 64.9 points per game this season while shooting 39.8 percent from the floor and 31.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Broncos have a plus-3.5 rebound differential and are forcing 16.4 turnovers per game.

Emily Wolph leads the WCC with 40 3-pointers made and leads Santa Clara in scoring (13.5 ppg) and assists (4.4 pg). She is also sixth in the conference with an 83.3 percent mark from the charity stripe.

Lori Parkinson, the WCC Player of the Week, leads the Broncos with 8.0 rpg and is second in scoring with 11.9 ppg. She also leads the team with 2.0 steals per game and is second with 2.8 apg.

Morgan McGwire is second on the team with 7.4 rpg and third with 11.7 ppg while shooting a team-best 47.3 percent from the floor. Marie Bertholdt is scoring 10.3 ppg to go with 5.8 rpg.

THE TOREROS
San Diego (7-7, 1-3 WCC) has lost four of five after losing Preseason All-WCC guard Maya Hood.

The Toreros are outscoring opponents 69.6-64.4 and outrebounding teams 37.8-36.4. They shoot 42.1 percent from the field but just 23.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Katherine Hamilton leads active players with 10.0 ppg and 1.5 spg. Caroline Buhr is the top rebounder with 5.0 pg. She is scoring 6.4 ppg as well. Cori Woodward's 14 3-pointers are most on the team and she is fifth in the conference with 4.6 apg while adding 8.4 ppg. Sydney Williams is fourth in the WCC with 1.4 bpg and is scoring 8.5 ppg.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to tipoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
