SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball lost yet another heartbreaker Saturday afternoon in San Diego. The Broncos fell 60-58 to the Toreros on a bucket in the final three seconds. It was the second thriller the teams have played this year with San Diego coming out on top both times.

With the game tied at 58 and seven seconds left on the clock, San Diego (12-14, 6-10 WCC) got the ball to Katherine Hamilton who drove baseline and connected on a tough shot over her defender on the block to put the Toreros up.

Santa Clara (13-14, 8-8 WCC) raced down the floor on the ensuing possession but Kyla Martin's desperation 3-pointer was off the mark.

San Diego won the battle of the boards 34-24 and took advantage by holding a 13-5 edge in second chance points. The advantage proved crucial in a game that never saw either team lead by more than five points.

Cori Woodward led the Toreros and scored 16 while going 3-for-5 from deep. Hamilton scored 11 and Sydney Williams added 10. Caroline Buhr grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

A 7-0 run for the Broncos over two and a half minutes in the fourth quarter saw them build the biggest lead of the game at 50-45. Kyla Martin converted an and-one and also added a jumper during the stretch.

Marie Bertholdt led Santa Clara with 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor and was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Emily Wolph and Martin each scored 13 with Martin going 5-for-7 from the floor.

After an Wolph jumper with a minute on the clock put the Broncos on top 56-54, the Toreros took advantage of an offensive rebound and got a 3-pointer from Woodward to put them back up 57-54.

The Broncos play the final road game of the season Thursday at Pacific at 7 p.m.
