Broncos Play Well In First Day of Cal Nike Invitational

The Bronco women's tennis team won six matches in the opening day of play at the 2012 Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.  Their play was highlighted by junior Katie Le advancing to the Elite 8 in the Gold ITA Singles Round.  She defeated BYU's Desiree Tran 6-1 and 6-2 in the Round of 32 and ASU's Hannah James 6-1 and 6-3 in the Round of 16.

Play continues throughout the weekend.

Alex Zaniewski fell 6-4;4-6;7-6(6) to Fresno State's Aishwarya Agrawal in the Gold ITA Singles Round of 32, but came back in the consolation bracket to defeat BYU's Morgan Anderson 6-0 and 6-2.

Le teamed up with doubles partner Jessica Agra to defeat Nevada's Emma Verberne and Michel Okhremchuk 8-4 in the Round of 16.

Stephanie Skaras fell 6-3, 2-6 and 6-0 to Nevada's Sheilia Smiley in the Blue ITA Singles Round of 32, but came back to defeat USF's Blair Reed when Reed retired 5-4 due to injury in the first round of the consolation bracket.
