SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The Santa Clara women's tennis team embarks on a three-match road trip in Southern California this week. The Broncos take on No. 61 Loyola Marymount University on Thurs., March 28, Pepperdine University on Sat., March 30, and finally No. 20 Rice on Sun., March 31. While the first two matches are West Coast Conference competition, the non-conference match against the Texas team will be played in Northridge, Calif. on Sunday.

The Broncos are coming off of a solid win over BYU on March 23. Santa Clara topped its WCC opponent by a score of 5-2, moving them to a 2-0 record in WCC competition after winning four out of five of its last matches. Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge helped capture the doubles point for the Broncos along with Katie Le and Jessica Agra. Then four singles victories by Le, Alex Zaniewski, Chelby Cooke, and Delphine Rouvillios solidified the match win.

No. 28 Katie Le moved up four spots from No. 32 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls on Tues., March 26. Against BYU, Le turned her two-match losing streak around and defeated Desiree Tran of BYU by a two-set score of 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position for the Broncos. Le's singles record improves to 6-4 in the dual season.

Last season Santa Clara lost to LMU, 4-3, and lost to Pepperdine, 6-1, at home.

No. 61 LMU

The LMU women's tennis team (7-5; 0-0 WCC) are currently on a four-match winning streak and look to test this against its first WCC competition versus the Broncos this Thursday. The Lions broke into the ITA rankings on March 5 and currently stand at No. 61, a first for LMU since 2007. The Lions lost four matches in a row during the middle of their dual season, but most recently beat Dartmouth, 6-1, on March 23.

The Pepperdine women's tennis team (2-10; 0-0 WCC) hosts three matches this week, beginning with a Tuesday, March 26 tilt vs. Sacramento State. The Waves open WCC action later in the week, welcoming San Francisco on March 29 followed by Santa Clara on March 30. Pepperdine has two ranked players on its roster: sophomore No. 40 Lorraine Guillermo and No. 58 Khunpak Issara, who is a redshirt senior. Together, the duo won WCC Doubles Team of the Month in both October, November and February. Most recently, Pepperdine fell 5-2 to No. 57 San Diego State last week.

No. 20 Rice

The Rice women's tennis team (13-4; 1-1 Conf. USA) play Cal State Northridge on Fri., March 29 before taking on the Broncos on Sun., March 31. The Owls have not lost a match since Feb. 17, posting an eight-match winning streak, and are ranked No. 20 in the nation by ITA.
