SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Adding to her already impressive Santa Clara tennis resume, junior Katie Le has been selected as one of the 64 singles players that will compete in the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship.

Ranked No. 26 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Le will travel to the University of Illinois as an At-Large selection to her second consecutive NCAA Singles Championships.

Singles competition will be played at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., beginning on May 22 through the 27. All matches shall be the best of three sets with regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games.

"Making the tournament two years in a row is a great accomplishment for Katie," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell, the 2013 WCC Coach of the Year. "We are all very excited about this year, especially after going through this last year. We feel more much prepared, and she is going in not just expecting to do okay but expecting to win multiple rounds this year. We are, as always, extremely proud of what she's been able to do. It's not easy to make the tournament once let alone twice in a row."

"I cannot wait to go to Illinois in three weeks for the NCAAs," said Le. "I have been looking forward to this tournament all year and unlike last year, I am going in with a higher ranking and a lot more confidence."

Le has played at the No. 1 position for the Broncos in both singles and doubles since arriving to the Mission Campus three years ago. For the 2013 regular dual season, the junior has tallied a 13-8 singles record and 12-9 doubles record with partner Jessica Agra.

Originally from Milpitas, Calif., Le was awarded All-WCC First-Team honors for her singles and Second-Team honors for her doubles play. She was also awarded to the 2012-13 WCC Tennis All-Academic Team, posting a 3.79 GPA as a Computer Engineering major.

Most recently, Le clinched the deciding league match to help the Broncos clinch a tie for first place when she beat then-No. 17 Jenny Jullien of Saint Mary's on April 7. This ultimately gave the Broncos their first team WCC regular season Championship in the program's history.

Other season highlight wins came over then-No. 9 Anett Schutting of California on Jan. 20 when Le topped Schutting 6-3, 6-1 at the Cal Winter Invite. Le also defeated then-No. 20 Nicole Gibbs of Stanford on April 3 by a score of 6-7(1), 6-3, 1-0(8). Both of these opponents have been selected to the NCAA Tournament with Le.

Le has been recognized by the WCC for her outstanding play each of her three years of being a Bronco. She holds the title of the 2011 WCC Freshman of the Year and the 2012 WCC Player of the Year along with First and Second-Team honors in singles and doubles every year as a Bronco.
