SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara head volleyball coach Jon Wallace announced the Broncos 2008 schedule this week. The Broncos take the court in 2008 with another challenging schedule, seeking their sixth West Coast Conference crown and 11th consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament. Santa Clara, coming off a 19-12 record in 2007 and their fifth league championship, will travel the entire season in the West for the first time since 2001.

Santa Clara opens the season with an eight-match road swing that begins on Aug. 30 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Utes Invitational hosted the University of Utah. The Broncos open the season against Wolverines of Utah Valley. SCU then faces tournament host Utah on Aug. 31. Both matches are scheduled for 3 p.m. The Broncos then head to Tucson, Ariz., on Sept. 5 and 6, where they will face the Red Raiders of Texas Tech, the Wildcats of Arizona and the Bobcats of Texas State in a tournament hosted by the University of Arizona.

The annual Bay Area rivalry between Santa Clara and Stanford continues on Sept. 13 as the Broncos face the Cardinal as part of the Stanford Tournament. The Broncos will look to avenge their first round loss to the Cardinal in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Prior to taking on Stanford, SCU will battle UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 11) and New Mexico State (Sept. 12).

The Broncos then open their home schedule on Sept. 16 against the Hornets of Sacramento State. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Leavey Center. In its last contests before the start of conference action, Santa Clara will travel to Long Beach to play two back-to-back matches against the 49ers on Sept. 19 and 20.

WCC play begins on Oct. 2 at home against the Lions of Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m., and continues against the Waves of Pepperdine on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. The Broncos will take a break in the middle of conference play to battle San Jose State in the Seventh Annual Rivalry Series on Oct. 21 at Spartan Gym.

The Broncos bring the 2008 regular season to a close against long-time league rival Saint Mary's on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. A potential 13th NCAA Tournament appearance for Santa Clara will begin on Dec. 5 at campus sites. NCAA regional action will be held on Dec. 12-13, with the national semifinals and finals matches on Dec. 18-20 in Omaha, Neb.
