SCU Takes On USF & USD On The Road

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 21 Santa Clara volleyball team closes out the road portion of its 2008 schedule against the top two teams in the West Coast Conference, San Francisco and No. 13 San Diego. The Broncos and Dons face off at the War Memorial Gym on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., while SCU and USD battle it out on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Last Time Out
The Broncos completed the regular-season sweep of the Pacific Northwest teams last weekend as they swept Gonzaga and Portland, 3-0. Lindsy Davigeadono compiled a team-best 50.0 hitting percentage for the weekend, while Brittany Lowe averaged 4.33 kills per set and had a 37.7 hitting percentage. Krista Kelley led the blocking for the Broncos with six total (1.00 per set).

Bronco Watch
Cmaylo continues to lead the Broncos at the net with a 39.0 hitting percentage and a 1.09 blocking average. She has also dished out 21 service aces. Lowe averages a team-best 3.65 kills per set and owns the team-high 32 aces. Davigeadono averages 11.10 assists per set and Taylor O'Brien collected 3.43 digs per set.

Movin' Up
With another 2-0 weekend under their belt, the Broncos moved up one spot to a No. 21 ranking in this week's Bison/AVCA Top 25 Coaches poll. There are two other WCC teams ranked this week -- San Diego checks in at No. 13 and Pepperdine dropped to No. 24. With their lost to San Diego, San Francisco dropped out of the top-25 but continues to receive votes, as does Saint Mary's.

In the WCC
Santa Clara remains tied for third on the team with Saint Mary's and an 8-3 league record. The Broncos lead the conference in blocking average and aces. Individually, Cmaylo is tied for second in blocks and third in hitting percentage, while Lowe is second in aces and fifth in kills.

In WCC games only, the Broncos hold on to the top spot in aces, and are third in blocks and fourth in kills. Individually, Cmaylo is second in hitting percentage, while Lowe is first in aces.

On the National Stage
In this week's national rankings, Santa Clara moved up in six of the seven national categories with its highest ranking coming at No. 28 in assists per set. Individually, Cmaylo held on to her No. 19 ranking in hitting percentage, while Davigeadono moved up to No. 20 in assists per set. For the full Bronco list, check page 5 of the notes.

Davigeadono Four Shy
The junior setter is just four block assists shy of entering that career category. She has a current tally of 184. Davigeadono is also eighth all-time in assists.

Scouting San Francisco
The Dons enter the week with an 18-6 overall record and an 8-2 WCC mark. USF faced its second loss of the league season to USD last weekend. Sara Mandala leads the team with 3.54 kills per set, while Carly Babin averaged 2.92 kills and 1.11 blocks per set. On serve, Haley Carroll has dished out 37 aces and averaged 4.57 digs per set.

Last Time Out
The Dons and Broncos last met on Oct. 18 at the Leavey Center. USF won the match in four sets (21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21).

All-Time vs. USF
Thursday's match is the 62nd meeting of the two programs in a series that Santa Clara leads 55-6.

Scouting San Diego
The Toreros enter the weekend in first place of the WCC standings with a 9-1 record and a 19-3 overall mark. Amy DeGroot leads the team averaging 4.16 kills per set with 23 aces. Tory Ellick owns a team-best 0.67 blocking average and a 33.7 hitting percentage.

Last Time Out
The Toreros and Broncos last met on Oct. 16 in a nationally-televised match at the Leavey Center. San Diego earned the 3-1 win (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22).

All-Time vs. USD
Saturday's match marks the 52nd meeting of the two programs with Santa Clara leading the series 31-20.

On Deck
Santa Clara returns to the Mission Campus for its final match of the 2008 regular-season. The Broncos host the Gaels of Saint Mary's on Senior Night Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. SCU will honor its five graduating seniors in a pre-match ceremony.
