Broncos Celebrate Senior Night This Friday

Senior Final Thoughts

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara volleyball team brings the 2008 regular-season to a close Friday night against long-time West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary's. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Leavey Center. The Broncos will also honor their five graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony.

Last Time Out
The Broncos faced two tough setbacks last weekend against then-unranked USF and No. 13 San Diego. Anna Cmaylo averaged 4.33 kills and 1.00 blocks per set, while Lindsy Davigeadono dished out 9.50 assists and 1.17 blocks per set.

Bronco Watch
Cmaylo continues to lead the Broncos at the net with a 39.6 hitting percentage and a 1.08 blocking average. She has also dished out 22 service aces. Brittany Lowe averages a team-best 3.59 kills per set and owns the team-high 33 aces. Davigeadono averages 10.99 assists per set and 0.95 blocks per set, and Taylor O'Brien collected 3.39 digs per set.

Davigeadono, Lowe Break Into More Categories
The junior setter and senior outside entered several new career categories after this weekend. Lowe entered the career block solos category and passed fellow senior Cmaylo to take over the No. 7 spot. Davigeadono joined the career block assists leaders at No. 9 with 190. She is also 11 shy of entering the career total blocks category. Her current tally is 223.

Senior Night!
Santa Clara will honor its five graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony just before starting lineups of Friday's match against Saint Mary's. The Broncos will say good-bye and good luck to Nichole Clark, Anna Cmaylo, Brittany Lowe, Michelle Luxton and Taylor O'Brien.

Scouting Saint Mary's
The Gaels enter their final game of the 2008 regular-season with a 19-7 overall record and a 9-4 WCC mark which puts them in third place. SMC posted a 3-1 upset of then-No. 13 San Diego last Thursday and fell 3-1 to USF on Sunday. The Gaels have won six of their last seven contests. Megan Burton leads the squad with a 34.2 hitting percentage, while Megan York averages a team-best 3.60 kills per set. Shannon Lowell leads SMC with 1.11 blocks per set and 25 aces.

Last Time Out
The Gaels and Broncos last met on Oct. 24 in Moraga with SMC posted a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-19) sweep of SCU. Lowe led the match with 13 kills, while Cmaylo posted a match-high 64.3 hitting percentage.

All-Time vs. Saint Mary's
Friday's match marks the 57th meeting of the two programs in which Santa Clara owns a 45-11 all-time record.

In the WCC
Santa Clara dropped to fourth place this week with an 8-5 league record. The Broncos are second in the WCC in blocking average and aces, and fourth in kills and assists. Individually, Cmaylo is second in hitting percentage and fourth in blocks, while Lowe is second in aces and sixth in kills. Davigeadono remains in third place in assists.

In WCC games only, Cmaylo remains second in hitting percentage, Lowe leads in aces and Davigeadono is third in assists. For the full list, see page 8.

On the National Stage
In this week's national rankings, Santa Clara highest ranking came at No. 39 in assists per set and No. 40 in kills per set. Individually, Cmaylo moved up to No. 17 in hitting percentage, while Davigeadono is No. 26 in assists per set. For the full list, see page 5.

On Deck
Santa Clara awaits its postseason fate as the 2008 NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 30.
