SCU Travels For Sheraton Four Points Arizona Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara volleyball team remains on the road this weekend as the Broncos take part in the 2008 Sheraton Four Points Arizona Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona. SCU opens tournament play against the Red Raiders of Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 5 at Noon PT and then battles host Arizona at 7 p.m. PT. The Broncos bring the weekend to a close with a 10 a.m. PT first serve against the Bobcats of Texas State.

Last Time Out
The Broncos opened the 2008 campaign with a 1-1 record at the Utes Invitational in Salt Lake City, Utah. Santa Clara rallied to defeat Utah Valley, 3-2, on Friday, but then fell to host Utah, 3-2, on Saturday. Redshirt senior Anna Cmaylo and senior Brittany Lowe led the Broncos with 33 kills each, while Cmaylo added six total blocks and Lowe had 19 digs. Junior setter Lindsy Davigeadono dished out 99 assists and four service aces, while libero Taylor O'Brien collected a team-high 28 digs.

On Track To 1,000
Seniors Lowe and Cmaylo are on track this season to join the 1,000 Club in digs and kills, respectively. Lowe is 57 digs away from her career 1,000, while Cmaylo is 15 kills shy of her career 1,000. Lowe reached her career 1,000 kills in 2007 after tallying a team-high 452.

4 To Go
Head coach Jon Wallace is now four wins shy of his 200th career victory. Under his direction, the Broncos have compiled a 196-79 overall record and a 98-28 mark in West Coast Conference play. On Sept. 12, 2006 the Broncos defeated the San Jose State Spartans 3-2 to give Wallace his 163rd career win, putting him alone atop the wins list, surpassing the 162 career victories of Mary Ellen Murchison (1978-88).

Scouting Texas Tech
Texas Tech enters the weekend with a 3-0 record after defeating UT-Arlington, North Texas and Jackson State last week. The Red Raiders are led by Amanda Dowdy, who posted 28 kills and 10 total blocks. A serving power, Caroline Witte and Jenn Harrell dished out five aces each last weekend.

Friday's contest marks the first meeting of the Broncos and Red Raiders.

Scouting Arizona
The Wildcats also went undefeated in their opening weekend, sweeping Weber State, San Jose State and Gardner-Webb. Arizona was led by Tiffany Owens (27K, 22D, 5Blk), Whitney Dosty (22K, 9D) and Paige Weber (84Ast, 5SA).

All-Time vs. Arizona
Friday marks the eighth meeting between the Broncos and Wildcats. Arizona leads the series 4-3. The teams last met on Sept. 9, 2005 with SCU defeating Arizona, 3-1.

Scouting Texas State
The Bobcats enter the weekend with a 3-1 records, falling to Miami, 3-1. Lawrencia Brown leads the team with 42 kills, while Brittany Collins has dished out 81 assists and 10 service aces. Emily Wilkes leads Texas State's blocking efforts with 12 total thus far.

Saturday's contest marks the first meeting between the Broncos and Bobcats.

On Deck
Santa Clara remains on the road for their final preseason tournament hosted by Stanford. The Broncos begin play against the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. SCU then battles New Mexico State at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, and closes out the invitational against Stanford on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
