Women's Water Polo Host Two Teams on Feb. 15

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After playing a round of games at the Triton Invitational, the women's water polo team will return home and host both Cal Lutheran and Sonoma State on Feb. 15.

First at 9 am, the Broncos will take on the Regals.  The Regals will begin their season on Feb. 13 and the match-up against the Broncos will only be their third game of the season.

The Regals only return two seniors, center Jordan Card and attacker Kaylee Kastrup. Card and Kastrup started all 31 games last season. Card lead the Regals in goals scored with 63. In the goal for the Regals is junior Gina Merry. Merry recorded 280 saves and averaged nine saves per game.

Next at 5:30 pm, the Broncos will face the Sonoma State Seawolves. Last season, the Broncos and the Seawolves matched up in Sonoma and the Broncos brought home the 17-10 win. Junior Elizabeth Anderson netted six goals that game while returning players Lauren Radich, Julia Peters and Cathy Cantoni each scored two.

The Seawolves return seven seniors, including goalie Andrea Mallul who in 10 games has recorded 64 saves. It is sophomore Carleigh Robinson who leads the Seawolves offense with 13 goals scored.

Currently for the Broncos, junior Elle Surber leads the pack for the Broncos with 13 goals scored and 15 steals in seven games. Peters trails close behind with nine goals and 14 steals in six games played. In the net is junior Sydni Estrella who has recorded 53 blocks and 11 steals this season. 

Last weekend at the Triton Invitational, the Broncos fell to three top-ranked teams, picking up one win over No. 20 Marist.
