Women's Water Polo Set to Play Fresno Pacific Sunbirds

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Looking to pick up their first conference win, the Bronco women's water polo team will take to the pool on April 2 and face the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds.  Santa Clara is 12-10 and 0-1 in conference play.

Last season, when the Broncos and the Sunbirds matched up in Fresno, the Broncos left with the 8-4 win. For the Broncos, Julia Peters played a standout game, scoring three goals and boosting the Broncos to the win. In addition, the Broncos defense played a tight game in the first half, keeping the Sunbirds scoreless until the third quarter.

The Sunbirds are 0-2 in conference play after loosing a close game to Azusa Pacific 7-6 on Mar. 28. It is Clovis, Calif. natives junior Emily Marr and senior Kelsie Harvey who head up the offense and defense for the Sunbirds. Marr leads the team in goals scored with 27 on the season. Anchoring the defense in the cage is Harvey who in 17 games played has tallied 178 saves and 28 steals.

The Broncos have had a tough stretch of games, falling in their last four, including their first conference loss to No. 16 Pacific 13-6. Redshirt junior Julia Peters has consistently led the Broncos in goals scored all season, totaling 42 in 21 games played.

Next weekend, the Broncos will travel down to Southern California for their final two away games against conference rivals Cal Baptist on April 10 and San Diego State on April 11.
