PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Santa Clara University's Scott Travers – coming off tournament titles at the California State Amateur and the SCGA Amateur this summer - has advanced into the quarterfinals of the 107th Annual NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship at Spyglass Hill Golf Club in Pebble Beach.

If Travers can claim victories in today's quarterfinal and semifinal matches he will play a 36-hole head-to-head match for the NCGA Championship Friday, August 13. If Travers is able to win this week at Spyglass Hill, he would be the first golfer to claim all three of California's amateur events since Charles Seaver did it in 1933.

 "Scott came to Santa Clara unheralded and without having been recruited by any other Division I programs," said Santa Clara men's golf head coach Rob Miller Wednesday.  "His determination and focus have helped him continue to improve every year to the point that I have come to accept and expect that he is destined to accomplish great things in his golf career and his life."

Travers shattered the previous SCGA Amateur scoring record of 14-under-par 270, which was set by Tiger Woods in 1994. The SCGA Amateur-California State Amateur combo win has only happened three times in the events' simultaneous 99-year history: Dr. Paul Hunter in 1921, George Von Elm in 1925 and Johnny Dawson in 1942.

Travers – who will be a senior this fall - was named the 2010 West Coast Conference 'Player of the Year,' qualified for the NCAA Tournament, and ranked among the NCAA's national leaders in scoring average. He helped SCU win the team title at the 2009 Desert Intercollegiate. In the 11 tournaments he entered last season, he was among the top five 10 times.
