CABO SAN LUCAS, Mex. – The University of
Houston leads the Cabo Collegiate by five strokes over UC Irvine
after the first day of tournament play at the Querencia Los Cabos golf
club in Cabo San Lucas.
The tournament, hosted by Santa Clara University will continue
through the weekend with 18-holes scheduled for Sunday and
Monday.
Bronco sophomore Rick Lamb is
tied for eighth overall after carding a 73. SCU's top two players,
Scott
Travers and Cory Mehl,
post scores of 78 and 77. SCU sits in eighth place among the
12-team field.
"It was a tough day out there today," said Santa Clara head coach
Rob Miller. "The course played difficult and long as
evidenced by the highest first-round leading score we've seen in a
while. We saw some low scores but not many. The good news is that
no one is out of it and you can recover quickly because the course
is so difficult.
"Rick (Lamb) had a good round of 73 but the team as a whole needs to show a lot of improvement. We are looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow."
