Santa Clara Golfers Off to a Good Start in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Tex. – The Santa Clara University men's golf team is currently competing at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas at Arlington.

The annual tournament runs from Monday through Tuesday, Sept. 20 and 21 at the Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth. The 18-team field consists largely of teams from the South, 12 playing in their home state of Texas. Rice won the tournament a year ago.

Santa Clara started strong Monday morning, with Cory Mehl and Rick Lamb both posting opening round scores of 68. Scott Travers – the national leader in par four scoring average – shot a 72, with Scott Lamb (75) and Ronnald Monaco (76) rounding out the SCU field.

The score put the Broncos in second place prior to round two beginning in the afternoon. For complete tournament results CLICK HERE.

"We got off to a good start today," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller. "Things are a bit different here in round two this afternoon, the wind has picked up and the greens are quite a bit bumpier. We will be a few strokes higher but still hope to be in position for a top three finish as team, which was our goal."

The par-72 championship course plays to a yardage of 7,304 yards. The teams are playing 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday. Tee times start at 8 a.m. each day.
