IRVINE, Calif. – Santa Clara University's men's golf team out played both West Coast Conference opponents at the UC Irvine Invitational in Newport Beach and finished fourth in the tournament's 11-team field. Senior Scott Travers finished ninth individually, going 3-over par in the 54-hole event and true freshman Bobby Monaco's score of 6-over was good for 15^th.

"We had a rough back nine today as a group," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller. "Rick (Lamb) had a good day, a 71 was a good score out there. His first round, which got thrown out, would have helped us. It was good to see him bounce back from that mental error. Another top 10 finish for Scott (Travers) was a positive. A couple of freshmen for us played well also."

Lamb accidently signed an incorrect scorecard after first round play Monday. Even though his overall score was correct, a hole-by-hole discrepancy forced him out of the individual chase. His overall score would have put the Broncos into the top 3.

The Broncos were nine shots out of first place entering final-round play Tuesday, trailing eventual tournament champions Arizona. SCU finished behind host UC Irvine and Cal Poly also, however the Broncos picked up team wins over league opponents St. Mary's and LMU.

"We are coming into the heart of the season, starting the spring schedule, so we will kick it in gear," added Miller. "We are defending champs at the Desert Intercollegiate, our next stop, so that should be a fun trip for us in a couple weeks."
