PULLMAN, Wash. – Scott Travers fired a final round 66 and placed third in the 88-man field to help the Santa Clara University men's golf team finish among the top teams at the 2010 Palouse Cougar Invitational hosted by Washington State University.
Travers – the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Year – led the field in par-4 scoring and the Broncos carded 64 birdies, second best among all participating teams outside of host and tournament champions Washington State.
The 66 carded by Travers equaled a career-low round by the
senior from Trabuco Canyon, Calif. Travers figures to be strong
candidate for All-America honors this season after winning both the
California State Amateur and the Southern California Amateur this
summer.
All five Bronco players remained consistently good throughout the two-day event which marked the 2010-11 season opener for all 16 teams in attendance. SCU out-played local rivals San Jose State, WCC foes Loyola Marymount and Gonzaga, and Sacramento State.
