Santa Clara’s Rick Lamb Qualifies for NCAA Golf Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University sophomore lefty Rick Lamb (Sarasota, Fla./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) was selected to play in the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships. Lamb was awarded an at-large berth into the tournament based on an outstanding season, which included four top-10 tournament finishes and a 73.07 scoring average.

Lamb is one of 10 individual qualifiers in a 75-player, 13-team field that will compete at the San Diego, California Regional, May 19-21, playing 54 holes at the Farms Golf Club. The top five teams from each of the six regionals and the low individual not a member of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.

Lamb, who was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in 2010, enjoyed a sophomore campaign in which he fired 11 rounds of par or better. Lamb finished as the runner-up to lead Santa Clara to a tournament title at the Del Walker Intercollegiate this spring. He tied for seventh overall at last month's conference championships and was named a First Team All-WCC honoree.
