HOLLISTER, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's golf team played terrific in final round play of the 2011 West Coast Conference Championships at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif. Senior Scott Travers dominated the most difficult stretch of the course, birdying seven-straight holes to post a 4-under 68 Tuesday.

Santa Clara finished fifth as a team, finishing strong, with all five players Tuesday posting par or better. SCU's round of 4-under was the best final round among all eight WCC teams in the field.

Sophomore Rick Lamb carded 13 birdies over three rounds and was the top finisher for SCU, tying for seventh. Lamb is expected to earn First Team All-WCC honors and has an outside chance of being selected for an NCAA Regional spot as an individual.

"We talked last night about everyone going out and ending the season on a positive note," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller. "I was really proud of Scott Travers, finishing his career with a great round. But even more importantly I was proud of the way he conducted himself. One of the things I told Scott was that all the parents and supporters came up to tell me how impressed they were with how he carried himself yesterday, in what must have been one of the poorest rounds he's ever had."

The Broncos - who were in the mix after Round One Monday but struggled in Round Two - were ranked as high as No. 75 this season after winning at Long Beach in early March. Travers – the WCC Player of the Year last season - claimed an individual tournament title in February and will go down as one of the most accomplished players in SCU history.

Junior Ronnald Monaco helped SCU get off to its good start, shooting an opening-round 73 and ended the tournament by tying for 17^th.  Travers tied for 19^th followed by Adam Ichikawa's finish of 24^th and John Callahan closed strong with a final round 72 to come in 36^th.

"We just missed the NCAA Regionals as a team, but this is the second-straight year we have been ranked among the top 100 in the country," said Miller. "We are going to keep working to get over that hump and move into the top 70."
