SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis team hits the road this week for a pair of matches, beginning with a nonconference opponent before continuing West Coast Conference play with its second match of the week.

The Broncos (8-7, 2-3) travel to play the Weber St. Wildcats (7-11) at noon Thursday and then move on to face the BYU Cougars (4-12,  2-2) at 11 a.m. Friday.

Santa Clara, which has captured five of its last eight, went 1-1 this past weekend at home, beating Portland Saturday 4-3 before falling 4-0 to Gonzaga Sunday.

"Everything in conference is going to be close," head coach Ben Cabell said. "What bounced our way on Saturday bounced Gonzaga's way on Sunday and that's the way it goes."

The Wildcats have come on strong of late, winning seven of their last 11 matches after starting the season with seven straight losses.

The Cougars have dropped their past three matches, including a close 4-3 defeat in their last match Sunday vs. Fresno State.

"One of the challenges with BYU is the altitude adjustment and going to play in a different location," Cabell said about traveling to Utah. "It will set up nicely for us getting to play the nonconference match first and get a little more time adjusting to playing in altitude and then we get to go into BYU on Friday hopefully as prepared as we're going to be for that match."

The Broncos' doubles duo of Madison Clarke/Chelby Cooke look to continue their strong play of late, having beaten seven of their last 10 opponents.

On the singles side, Nabila Farah, 7-1 in her last eight matches, looks to continue her solid play, as does Daniella Silva, who is 6-2 in her last eight matches.

Delphine Rouvillois has also been strong for the Broncos in singles competition, going 4-2 since returning from a knee injury.

The Broncos look to avenge last year's match at home in which they fell to the Cougars, 5-2.
