SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Santa Clara women's tennis team downed the University of San Francisco 4-0 Saturday afternoon behind clutch efforts in both singles and doubles play in the West Coast Conference match.

The Broncos (11-7, 4-3) started the match by taking the doubles match from the Dons (5-11, 3-4) behind efforts from the pairings of Chelby Cooke and Madison Clarke and Daniella Silva and Nabila Farah.

"We did a great job in doubles, that was huge for us to get the doubles point," said head coach Ben Cabell. "(Silva) and (Farah) deserve a ton of credit, they beat a very good team in doubles today."

Santa Clara, which joined USF and LMU in a three-way tie for fourth in the WCC standings at the start of the day, won three singles matches in straight sets.

Cooke and Clarke defeated Shanna Dos Santos and Hanna Borjeson 6-1 of San Francisco on Court 2, giving them a 13-5 record as partners this season. Silva and Farah cemented the doubles point with a victory over Andrea Ka and Thyra Taune 6-3.

In singles, Cooke won a close match against Dos Santos 6-4, 6-3 and Farah followed suit soon after, defeating Sofia Holmberg 6-2, 6-4.

Clarke snagged the winning point with her victory on Court 3 over Genevieve McCloskey 6-4, 6-2. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished.

"That's a great win for us, San Francisco has been playing really well," Cabell said. "Really good win and I'm really proud of (Cooke) and (Farah), they did a great job closing out their singles matches, that was not easy."

Farah and Clarke continue to lead the team in singles wins with records of 16-7 and 14-9, respectively, this season.

"(This was) just an overall great team effort, I thought we played well down the line and the girls deserve a lot of credit," Cabell said. "They're playing hard and it's the end of the season, they're a little banged up, but handling it really well."

With the win, the Broncos will be no lower than tied for fourth place in the league standings at the end of weekend. The top six teams advance to the WCC Tournament.

The Broncos host No. 75-ranked UC Santa Barbara Sunday at 11 a.m. for their next match.
