SAN FRANCISCO – Santa Clara cross country had its men and women both take sixth place at the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday at Golden Gate Park.
Sasha Codiga was the top finisher on the women's side in 24th with a time of 23:00.0. It was a personal best, topping the 23:15.1 set last week. The other scorers for the Broncos were Hannah Covington (31st, 23:07.5), Kayla Neumann (37th, 23:14.2), Jasmin Peterman (53rd, 24:00.5), and Claire Cocales (71st, 24:42.0). Rocky Deering, Kailee Johnson, and Jackie Cruz ran as well. Neumann also set a career best, topping her previous of 23:39.4.
The Broncos finished with a total of 185 points. Simon Fraser took first with 36. Olivia Willett of Simon Fraser was the top finisher at 21:57.6.
On the men's side, Ishaan Singh was the team's top finisher in 15th at 25:36.8. Also scoring was Oliver Branham-Upton (22nd, 25:45.7), Dominic Baciocco (33rd, 25:56.0), Brendan Mulvany (70th, 27:14.0), and Steven Lin (87th, 28:06.1). Dion Dupree also raced.
"I was really pleased with how we competed today," Santa Clara head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Across the board the men performed better than last week and they gained valuable experience. Ishaan, Oli and Dom mixed it up with some very accomplished runners today."
Santa Clara finished with a score of 160 with Chico State taking the team title with 24 points. Aaron Ahl of Simon Fraser finished with the best time at 24:30.6.
