Women's Fourth Place Finish Leads Cross Country at Bronco Invite

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The Santa Clara women took fourth with the men finishing in 12th in the invitational races at the Bronco Invite Saturday morning. In the open races, the women took first.

JJ Escalera (8th, 20:38.8) and Abbey Meck (9th, 20:41.7) led the women. Kinsey Hall (27, 21:18.9), Maiya Fujiwara (46th, 21:46.2), and Adelaide Vergnolle (62nd, 22:15.3) also scored for Santa Clara with Hannah Aguirre, Irene Nagasaka, and Katie Castelli also running.

It was a personal best for Escalera, Meck, Hall, Fujiwara, Vergnolle, and Nagasaka. Escalera (3rd), Meck (4th), and Hall (7th) all cracked the program's top-10 list.

San Francisco won the team title with 46 points. The Broncos finished with 144, ahead of four other WCC schools (Saint Mary's, LMU, Pacific, and Pepperdine).

Ruby Smee of San Francisco took the individual title with a time of 19:30.3.


Ishaan Singh (55th, 24:53.9), Henry Raymond (67th, 25:13.6), and Ian Kirk (74th, 25:22.4) had strong races for Santa Clara. Oliver Branham-Upton (78th, 25:26.3) and EJ Odocayen Cruz (86th, 25:39.3) also scored and Dominic Baciocco, Josh Simboli, Brendan Mulvany, and Alex Scales also ran.

It was a personal best for Raymond, Kirk, Branham-Upton, Odocayen Cruz, Simboli, Mulvany, and Scales.

Portland State took the team title with 67 points. The Broncos scored 306.

The top individual was Nick Randazzo of UC Santa Barbara at 23:24.2.


The women's open saw Santa Clara take the team title with 53 points.

Kaitlyn Twadell (4th, 21:53.8), Hannah Covington (5th, 21:54.5), Luciana Lenth (11th, 22:34.6), Kayla Neumann (23rd, 23:21.6), and Claire Cocales (43rd, 24:26.2) all scored with Erica Julian, Gabi Wisnovsky, and Tatum Holloway running as well.

It was a personal best for Twadell, Lenth, Julian, Wisnovsky, and Holloway.

Cate Ratliff of Cal Poly Distance Club took first at 21:23.4.

In the men's open Max Nelson (66th, 26:30.7), Hayelom Fitsum (117th, 27:33.2), Dion Dupree (139th, 28:08.3), and DeVon Dupree (161st, 29:01.6) competed.

It was a personal best for Nelson, Fitsum, De. Dupree, and Di. Dupree.

Cal Poly Distance Club won the team title with 30 points.

Unattached Xander Olivero took the individual title at 24:07.3.
