Track & Field Finishes Competing at WSU Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. – Santa Clara track & field finished its second competition at the WSU Invitational on Saturday.

In the Men's 800, Alex Scales finished third with a time of 1:51.65. Dion Dupree came in 15th at 1:56.24, a personal best.

In the Men's 5000 Ian Kirk ran in a time of 14:53.86, good for fifth and a personal best.

The team of Alex Scales, Hayelom Fitsum, Josh Simboli, and Henry Raymond finished in third in the Distance Medley at 10:06.08.

The Men's 3000 saw Zach Litoff and Ian Twyman finished third and fourth with times of 8:05.20 and 8:11.90. Both were new career-bests and Litoff's was a program record. Twyman's time was under the previous school record as well. Ishaan Sign was 13th at 8:36.52, Dominic Baciocco was 16th at 8:38.60, and Oliver Branham-Upton was 33rd at 8:59.92. It was a career best for Singh and Baciocco.

The Men's 800 saw Dupree finish 14th at 1:58.62 and Fitsum at 1:58.93, good for 16th.

Ian Kirk finished the 5000at 14:53.86, good for fifth and a personal best.

"It was a solid weekend of competition for us," Santa Clara head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Zach and Ian did really well over the 3000m distance, and Alex ran great in the 800m as well. There were certainly other highlights, but I think the best race of the meet for us was Ian Kirk's 5000m. The improvement he's shown is really exciting, and he raced really smart and really tough."

Tatum Holloway finished 35th in the Women's 400 Dash at 1:02.43, a personal best.

JJ Escalera posted a fourth-place finish in the Women's 800 at 2:14.26. Sophia Morris (8th, 2:18.44) and Gabby Navarro (23rd, 2:23.91) also competed. It was a career-best for both Escalera and Navarro.

In the Women's 1 Mile Run, Maiya Fujiwara was 17th with a time of 5:12.23 and Luciana Lenth was 32nd at 5:34.87. Both set career-bests. Sasha Codiga ran but did not finish.

Abbey Meck led the Broncos in the Women's 3000 in 10th place at 10:11.36. Kinsey Hall was right behind her in 11th at 10:11.79. Katie Castelli (23rd, 10:27.30), Kayla Neumann (26th, 10:30.23), Adelaide Vergnolle (32nd, 10:54.32), and Jasmin Peterman (36th, 11:23.08) also raced in the event. It was a career best for Meck, Castelli, Neumann, and Peterman.
