Men's Basketball Team Conducts Preseason Scrimmage

Oct. 26, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The guard duo of Kyle Bailey and Ethan Rohde scored a total of 37 points to lead all players in a three period intrasquad men's basketball scrimmage Saturday morning at the Leavey Center.

Bailey, an all-West Coast Conference guard from Fairbanks, Alaska, shot 6-for-10 from the field, including five-for-six from the three-point arc in the scrimmage. Rohde, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., scored 18 points, including five-for-seven from beyond the three-point arc.

The scrimmage featured three 10:00 periods and the teams were interchanged throughout each of the three periods. Four players, J.R. Patrick, Alex Kargbo, Scott Borchart and Jordan Legge, sat out the scrimmage due to various injuries.

"I was pretty encouraged by the way we played this morning," said Head Coach Dick Davey. "With the limited number of players available, there really wasn't much time for the guys to rest, particularly the interior players. But, I was really pleased with the our decision-making abilities and how quickly our younger guys have come along. We had four guys sitting out today, but I'm more concerned with having them ready to play when the season starts rather than pushing them along too quickly for a preseason scrimmage."

Overall, Santa Clara combined to make 48 percent of its shots, including a 13-for-28 performance from behind the three-point line for over 46 percent from that range.

Santa Clara plays its only exhibition game of the preseason Nov. 15 against the Olympic Club at 7 p.m. Admission is free. The home opener for the Broncos is scheduled for Nov. 25 against UC Santa Cruz at 7 p.m. For tickets, click here or contact the athletic ticket office at 408/554-4660.
