SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball team returns to action following a week of final exams Saturday, December 14 at 7 p.m. against the University of Nevada in the Leavey Center on the Mission Campus.
Tickets are available by calling the athletic ticket office at 408/554-4660 or by clicking here. Fans bringing a jacket or coat for donation to the homeless will receive admission to the game for $2 at the door.
The game will be broadcast live on the Broncos Radio Network, which consists of 1640AM KDIA, 103.3FM KSCU and on the Internet by clicking here. There will also be live GameTracker coverage on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
Santa Clara enters the game with a 3-3 record with just four home games remaining before West Coast Conference play begins in January. The Broncos lead the series with Nevada by a 33-24 margin but the two teams have split the last 12 meetings 6-6. Santa Clara has won seven straight games in the series at home, dating back to a 72-71 loss on Dec. 13, 1980. Nevada was a member of the West Coast Conference from 1969-79 and the two teams played 20 times during that span with SCU taking 12 of those games as league rivals. Dick Davey owns a 3-2 record against the Wolf Pack.
Junior guard Kyle Bailey leads the Broncos in scoring through the first six games, averaging 13.4 points and 3.2 assists per game. Freshman Brandon Rohe and junior center Jim Howell also score in double figures, averaging 12.0 and 10.0 points per game respectively. The Broncos are scoring at a 69.8 points-per-game clip and our outrebouding their opponents by a margin of three per game. SCU is shooting 38.1 percent from behind the three-point stripe.
The Wolf Pack are 2-4 overall following a 76-63 loss at Arizona State Tuesday. The Wolf Pack opened the season with a narrow two-point, 77-75, loss at San Diego before rebounding with a 64-61 win at San Francisco. UNR then lost two straight, 73-70 at Weber State and 82-80 against in-state rival UNLV before registering an impressive 83-54 win over Pacific. Three of Nevada's four losses have been by three points or less.
Following the Nevada contest, Santa Clara takes to the road to play games at Maryland, Baltimore County and Loyola College. The five-day trip will be the longest of the season for the Broncos and marks the first time this year SCU will play outside of the state of California.
Santa Clara returns home to host the 36th annual Cable Car Classic Dec. 27-28 at the Leavey Center. The field includes Texas A&M, Princeton and Mississippi Valley State. Contact the athletic ticket office for information.
