Santa Clara Men Host Wright State

Dec. 29, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Fresh off Saturday night's Cable Car Classic championship game victory over Princeton, the Santa Clara men's basketball team plays its third game in four days Monday night when it hosts Wright State at 7 p.m in the Leavey Center.

Tickets to Monday's game are available by calling the athletic ticket office at 408/554-4660. All youths under 15 years-of-age will receive a specially-priced $2 admission if they are wearing red. The game will be broadcast live via the Bronco Radio Network, which consists of 1640 KDIA AM, 103.3 KSCU FM and www.SantaClaraBroncos.com. There will also be live statistical coverage via the OCSN GameTracker.

The Broncos are 8-3 on the season and off to the second-best start in Coach Dick Davey's 11 years as head coach at Santa Clara. The five-game non-conference win streak is also the best since the Broncos ripped-off seven-straight early in the 1997 season.

Junior Kyle Bailey, who has missed the last five games due to foot injury, is the teamn's leading scorer with a 13.4 per game average. Freshman guard Brandon Rohe is close behind with a 13.0 points per game average and scored a career-high 29 points in Friday's Cable Car Classic first round win over Mississippi Valley State. Jim Howell and Ethan Rohde are the remaining top scorers for SCU, averaging 10.5 and 9.5 points, respectively. Cord Anderson is the team's rebounding leader, averaging 7.2 boards per game.

Wright State, who has been in the Bay Area since Dec. 26, is 6-3 on the season. The Raiders, a member of the Horizon League, opened the season with four straight wins and earned a 75-61 win over Eastern Kentucky in its last outing on Dec. 18. Seth Doliboa leads Wright State in scoring and rebounding, averaging 22.9 points and 6.8 boards per game.

Last season the Raiders raced to a 76-62 victory over Santa Clara in Dayton, Ohio. Vernard Hollins, this season's second-leading scorer with a 20.2 per game average, and Jesse Diester led Wright State with 21 points each, while Justin Holbrook registered a team-high 10 points for SCU. The Broncos tied the game at 40-40 on a Jordan Legge jumper before the Raiders pulled away for the win.
