SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball, fresh off its first win, is set for the Big West/West Coast Conference Challenge on Saturday. The Broncos match up against Cal State Bakersfield, CSUN and Sacramento State at Santa Cruz Main Beach in Santa Cruz, California.

SCU scored a victory in its home opener by rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Pacific 3-2 Wednesday. The win also marked the first for the Broncos (1-9) at the SCU Beach Volleyball Courts in program history.

Alex Anthony produced the dual-clinching kill in the third set of the final tilt; she teamed up with Elizabeth Held for a win at No. 3. Michelle Shaffer/Kathryn Decker ran their team-leading record to 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Claire Doud/Brynn Paumen prevailed at No. 4.

The Roadrunners (5-1) won their first four matches by way of sweep and have not played since a 4-1 victory over Santa Clara on Feb. 28 at Irvine Valley College.

The Matadors (2-0) swept both matches on their opening weekend, defeating the Master's University and Cal State Los Angeles on Feb. 28.

The Hornets (1-2) have lost two matches to San José State (Feb. 27/29) and defeated Pacific 3-2 (Feb. 29) in 2020.
