SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball has set a new program record by having six student-athletes recognized as part of the West Coast Conference All-Academic honors. Michelle Shaffer earned a spot on the all-academic team, while Alex Anthony, Kathryn Decker, Kathryn LeBaron, Gretchen Reinert and Natalia Rentsch received honorable mention nods, as announced by the conference on Thursday.
Shaffer, a sophomore accounting major with a 3.72 GPA, played exclusively on court one in the 2020 season and led the team with six match victories. She teamed up with Decker to win four straight matches at the start of the season and five of the first six overall. Shaffer/Decker won in straight sets against Pacific on March 4, helping the Broncos to a 3-2 dual victory, the first in program history on the Mission campus.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the conference selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
