Women’s Golf Takes Ninth At Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team scored its best round of the 54-hole Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate with today's final round 310 to claim a ninth place finish at the event completed today at the Classic Club Resort in Palm Desert.

The Broncos ended five shots shy of a top-5 finish with their three-round total of 941. San Jose State (893) claimed the team title by 24 shots over New Mexico State after scoring a tournament-best 292 in today's final round.

Junior Monique Riley had the top round of the tournament for Santa Clara with today's 2-over 74 to climb into a tie for 20th with a 233 (+17) total. Riley birdied three straight holes to surpass her total of birdies (2) over yesterday's 36 holes.

Freshman Kyleigh Moreno, playing her first collegiate tournament, carded a final round 79 to place in a tie for 24th with a 234 (+18) total while sophomore Annie Freman's 236 (+20) total placed her in a tie for 33rd. Freman carded eight birdies over the weekend, the second-highest total among the 92 participating golfers.

Meghan Shain placed in a tie for 39th after today's round of 80 gave her a two-day total of 238 (+22) and freshman Isabella Salant finished with a 250 (+34) total following a final round 86.

The Broncos return to tournament play on October 6 competing in the two-day Fresno State Classic held at the San Joaquin Country Club.
