Women’s Golf In Third After First Round Of Firestone Grill Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – Highlighted by a 1-over-par 74 from freshman Kristin Le (pictured), the Santa Clara women's golf team ended round one Saturday in third place, six shots off the lead in the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational, being contested at the 6,040-yard, par-73 Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

The Broncos carded a 306 team score and trail Northern Arizona (300) and Cal State Northridge (304). The top seven teams in the field of 13 are separated by just 16 shots heading into Sunday's final round.

With her first round score, Le ended the day tied for fifth place with a trio of golfers just two shots behind leader Rebecca Bostrom of Cal State Northridge, who was the only player below par at 1-under 72.

Meghan Shain is tied for ninth after her first round 2-over 75 while Isabella Salant, Kyleigh Moreno and Casey Briggs are all tied for 18th at 5-over 78. Moreno and Briggs are competing as individuals in this tournament.

Three Broncos, Annie Freman, Monique Riley and Kaci McCartan, are tied for 25th after scoring a first round 6-over 79. McCartan is also competing in this event as an individual.

Sunday's final round play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (PT). A complete recap and results will be posted on SantaClaraBroncos.com at the conclusion of the tournament.
