Women’s Golf Tied For Ninth At Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team completed the first day of play at the 16-team Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate tied for ninth place with a pair of schools in the annual event competed at the 6,119-yard, par-72 Classic Club Resort in Palm Desert.

After scoring a first round 311 that saw them tied for fourth following the opening round, the Broncos struggled with a second round 320 in windy conditions, ending the day tied with Northern Arizona and William & Mary with a 631 total. San Jose State holds a 7-shot lead over UC Riverside entering Sunday's final round.

Freshman Kyleigh Moreno, playing her first collegiate tournament, led the Broncos with rounds of 78 and 77 to place in a tie for 17th at 155 (+11), 10 shots behind leader Megan Osland of San Jose State.

Meghan Shain tied for 33rd, three shots back of Moreno, with rounds of 77 and 81 (158), while Annie Freman and Monique Riley both shot a 159 to tie for 37th entering Sunday's final 18 holes.

The Broncos will be paired with Northern Arizona and William & Mary for Sunday's final round, which tees off at 7:30 a.m. (PT). Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com with final results and a tournament recap posted on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
