Sofia Huerta Named to M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With her team ranked No. 10 in the country, Sofia Huerta of Santa Clara women's soccer was named to the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List. Huerta, a senior from Boise, Idaho, was named Third Team All-American, First Team All-West Region, and First Team All-WCC.

"I am really honored to be on the M.A.C. Watch List and proud to represent Santa Clara and our program," said Huerta. "I wouldn't be where I am without the help and support of my teammates who push me everyday and create a competitive environment that allows me to constantly improve. I especially want to thank Jerry who has taught me more about soccer in the past three years than I could have asked for and has instilled the confidence in me that I've always needed. Again, I'm so honored to be recognized."

"Coming off of an All-American season last year and going into her senior season is a nice combination for Sofia to have," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "She has plenty of talent and potential. Like all seniors, she is ready to have her best season. We're thankful to have another season with her and she is very deserving of this recognition."

Huerta led the Broncos in goals (16) and points (40) while tying for the team lead in assists (8). She also scored three game-winning goals and had the first goal in the Broncos 2-1 win vs. Boston College in the NCAA Tournament. Santa Clara finished the season with the second-best offense in the country behind Huerta's terrific season on offense.

The Broncos start the season Aug. 22 vs. UC Irvine at 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw.
