SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis lost 4-1 to Cal Poly at the Mustang Tennis Complex in a rain-delayed match on Saturday.
Susanne Boyden clinched the team victory for the Mustangs when she defeated Jamie Schroer, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3.
Elvena Gevargiz picked up the lone point for the Broncos with a straight set win over Kim Bhunu, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2. The Bronco sophomore also picked up a doubles win when she teamed with junior Maddie Pothoff to beat Emily Louie-Meadors and MacKenzie Worsnop, 6-1, at No. 1.
Santa Clara (1-3) had a chance to take the doubles point at No. 2 when Caitlyn Frankel and Katya Tabachnik went to a tiebreak against Emily Ackerman and Bhunu but lost 7-6 (7-2).
Cal Poly (2-3) took the next two singles matches on No. 6 and 5 when Emily Ackerman beat Lindsey Pesqueira, 6-1, 6-4 and Grace Olyphant bested Frankel, 6-3, 6-3, to go up 3-0 before Gevargiz's win.
The Broncos next play on Thursday against Southeastern Louisiana at the Degheri Tennis Center.
