SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Four Santa Clara women's tennis players earned West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, as announced by the WCC on Tuesday. Maddie Pothoff was selected to the all-academic team while Caitlyn Frankel, Elvena Gevargiz, and Katya Tabachnik received honorable mention recognitions.
Pothoff, a junior, carries a 3.633 grade point average (GPA) and posted a 16-9 overall singles record, including 11-5 in dual matches while playing all matches at No. 1 in the lineup.
Last week, Pothoff was named All-WCC Singles First Team as well as All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention.
Frankel, a junior, has a 3.205 GPA majoring in management. This is the first time the Dallas, Texas, native was recognized as Honorable Mention All-Academic.
Sophomores Gevargiz and Tabachnik were also named All-Academic Honorable Mention for the first time. Gevargiz carries a 3.252 GPA majoring in sociology while Tabachnik, a marketing major, has a 3.644 GPA.
Gevargiz was named All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention last week.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team. Also the student-athlete must have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution.
