SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara volleyball held its first official practice ahead of the 2019 season on Saturday morning in Leavey Center. First-year head coach Erin Lindsey and the Broncos began preparation for their 31-game schedule, including 11 contests against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams.
SCU brings back five starters and 13 student-athletes from a season ago, including 2018 West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team selection Michelle Shaffer, who led the team with 297 kills. Returning players account for 1,220 of last year's 1,315 kills.

The Broncos begin the season by playing four matches in two days during the Indiana Invitational. They face Florida International and UT Martin on Aug. 30, then Marshall and the tournament host Hoosiers on Aug. 31.
Santa Clara hosts crosstown rival San José State in its first home match of the on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. The Broncos take on Marist and Northern Colorado over the next two days; they have 12 matches in Leavey Center this season. Fans can purchase single game and season tickets here.
