Volleyball Prevails in Four Sets Against LMU on Senior Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Before being recognized for their contributions to the program, seniors Allison Kantor and Taylor Odom helped deliver a win for Santa Clara volleyball.

Kantor had a double-double (12 kills/11 digs) and Odom tallied 11 kills and eight of the team's 11 blocks to pull closer to the school record in that category as the Broncos posted a 25-18, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22 victory over Loyola Marymount in Saturday's West Coast Conference matchup.

Kantor and Odom combined to hit .447 and Julia Sangiacomo contributed 12 kills and eight digs for Santa Clara (19-11, 9-8), who outhit the Lions in each set and .305 to .150 in the match.

Sierra Bartley tallied a match-high 16 kills and Savannah Slattery added 13 for LMU (15-14, 9-8).

The Broncos overcame 16 service errors, their second-highest total of the season, to claim their third win in the last four matches.

LMU had a chance to force the match to go the distance, but as it did at the end of the third set, Santa Clara made plays to finish off the fourth.

The Lions scored seven of nine points to tie it at 22-all, but Kantor followed with a kill and one of her two service aces, and Sangiacomo closed out the match with a kill.

The third set featured six ties with Santa Clara retaking the lead on a key service run by Odom. She had a pair of aces ruring that 6-0 stretch, during which Sangiacomo and Dreyer each contributed a kill to push the Broncos ahead 23-20. The Lions answered with three straight points, aided by two Santa Clara errors, but LMU had a service error and Michelle Shaffer, who had 38 assists, ended it with an ace.

In set two, the Broncos led by four early after a 6-0 run, but the Lions chipped away. Kantor's kill at 24-23 fought off set point, but Bartley answered with a kill forcing a Santa Clara timeout. Bartley came through with another kill to even the match.

In the opening set, the Broncos took control with a 6-0 run, capped by two kills apiece from Odom and Sangiacomo that erased a deficit for a 19-14 advantage. Santa Clara went on to score four of the final five points in the set.

Kathryn Decker had a solid all-around match for the Broncos with six kills, 13 digs and a career-high five blocks.
