SAN MATEO, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball was recognized for its performance in the classroom and in the competitive arena on Tuesday as five Broncos earned West Coast Conference All-Academic recognition. Julia Sangiacomo was named to the first team, while Alex Anthony, Liliana Light, Gretchen Reinert and Michelle Shaffer each received an honorable mention accolade.
Sangiacomo (biology major) matched the highest cumulative GPA among student-athletes selected to the first team.
Reinert (communication) earned her third-straight honorable mention.
Shaffer (accounting) was recognized for the second season in a row after being named to the WCC All-Academic Team as a sophomore in 2019. Light (biology) took home her second-straight honorable mention and Anthony (communication) was recognized for the first time.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
