LOS ANGELES - The Santa Clara men's soccer team faced a tough 2-0 setback Saturday night against UCLA in non-conference action at Drake Stadium. With the loss the Broncos drop to 1-4-1 on the season, while UCLA improved to 2-3-1.

The Bruins first goal was scored by Maxwell Griffin at the 13:39 mark. Jason Leopoldo sent a chip shot into the box where Griffin chest-trapped the ball and then kicked it into the upper right corner past SCU keeper Kevin Klasila.

UCLA's second goal was also set up by Leopoldo in the 50th minute. He sent the ball into the box at 49:45, but as Bronco defender Jalil Anibaba tried to clear it out of danger with a header, the ball pinged off the left post and into the goal.

The Broncos fought hard to cut into the lead in the second half. In the 57th minute, Jeff Cosgriff fired a shot to the upper left corner of the goal but goalkeeper Brian Perk was able to knock it out of bounds. Cosgriff attempted again in the 70th minute as did freshman Connor Mitchell in the 89th minute after a free kick.

Santa Clara returns to the Mission Campus to host local rival San Jose State on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium.
