SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's soccer team travels for a single game this weekend against West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's on Sunday, Oct. 12. Kick off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium in Moraga.

Last Time Out
The Broncos faced two hard-fought setbacks to open WCC action last weekend. Santa Clara fell 4-1 to Portland and was edged 2-1 in overtime by Gonzaga. Both matches were played on the road. The lone goal in each contest was scored by sophomore Kellen Wantulok.
Bronco Watch
Freshman Connor Mitchell tied junior Jeff Cosgriff for first place two weeks ago. Both players have six points (2G, 2A). Senior Brian Martin and Wantulok are tied for second on the squad with four points (2G). In goal, Kevin Klasila has a 1.48 goals-against average and has collected 15 saves, while Jeremy Del Re as posted 17 saves.
Assists Leaders
Mitchell joined the Broncos assists leaders this week. He, along with Cosgriff and freshman Brandon Zimmerman have been integral in setting up several of the Broncos goals this season. Mitchell had a hand in each of Wantulok's goals last weekend. Cosgriff help put together Mykell Bates' game-winning goal against UW-Milwaukee and on Mitchell's game-tying goal against then-No. 12 Cal. Zimmerman teamed with Martin for a goal against UIC and then helped out fellow freshman Mitchell against Stanford.
Saving Del Re
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Del Re saw his first taste of collegiate action this season and with 17 saves thus far, he leads the Broncos in that category. Del Re also earned win No. 1 and his first career shutout this weekend with the Broncos' overtime victory against Stanford. He has a 1-2-1 record this season.
In the WCC
It is early in the conference season for the Broncos as they just began their double round-robin. SCU is ranked third in points, goals and assists, and fourth in shots. Individually, Cosgriff and Mitchell are tied for seventh in points, while Mitchell ranks No. 2 in poitns per game. Mitchell, Cosgriff and Zimmerman are also tied for fifth in assists. Del Re checks in at No. 6 in saves.
Scouting Saint Mary's
The Gaels will face the Dons of USF on Friday before hosting the Broncos on Sunday. Saint Mary's enters the weekend with a 2-6-1 overall record and a 1-1-0 WCC mark. Players to watch: Yousef Samy (3G, 1A, 7 Pts.); Jason Badger (26 saves, 1.46 GAA).
Last Time Out vs. Saint Mary's
Nov. 11, 2007 - In their final home game of the 2007 season, Santa Clara rallied to a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's. Peter Lowry, Stephen McCarthy, Ricky Character and Danny Castellanos all scored for the Broncos.

Sunday's contest marks the 41st meeting of the two programs in a series that Santa Clara leads 35-2-3.
On Deck
Santa Clara finally returns to Buck Shaw Stadium for the first of two three-game home stands. The Broncos host the Lions of Loyola Marymount on Friday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. and then battle the Toreros of San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
