SAN FRANCISCO - The Santa Clara men's soccer team faced an intense and hard-fought 3-1 loss to the University of San Francisco in West Coast Conference action Sunday night. With the loss the Broncos dropped to 3-7-5 on the season and 1-3-3 in league play.

Scoring the lone goal for the Broncos was senior Chris Sauter. It was his first of the season and was scored in the eighth minute of the contest. Sauter fought his way up inside the box and sent the ball just to the left of Dons keeper Jeremy Coupe.

Santa Clara did a solid job defensively to hold off USF until the second half. The Dons did make six attempts in the first half to even the score, but only two of the shots were on goal and both were saved by Bronco keeper Kevin Klasila.

USF tied the score in the 65th minute on an unassisted goal by Jonathan Levi. He received the ball off the rebound of a shot by Conor Chinn that was saved by Klasila. At 70:31, Leon Williams scored his second goal of the season to give the Dons a one goal edge, 2-1. His strike beat Klasila to the far left post from about six yards out. Chinn netted the final goal of the contest at 81:38 off a cross from Levi.

The Broncos return to action on Friday, Oct. 31 against the Bulldogs of Gonzaga. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium.
