SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's soccer team returns home Wednesday night for its last non-conference game of the season against local rival San Jose State. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium. SCU then travels up the El Camino to battle Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Cagan Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Broncos faced a hard-fought 2-0 loss to the Bruins of UCLA last Saturday night. The Bruins' first goal was scored by Maxwell Griffin at the 13:39 mark. UCLA's second goal was also set up by Leopoldo in the 50th minute. He sent the ball into the box at 49:45, but as Bronco defender Jalil Anibaba tried to clear it out of danger with a header, the ball pinged off the left post and into the goal. The Broncos fought hard to cut into the lead in the second half. In the 57th minute, Jeff Cosgriff fired a shot to the upper left corner of the goal but goalkeeper Brian Perk was able to knock it out of bounds. Cosgriff attempted again in the 70th minute as did freshman Connor Mitchell in the 89th minute after a free kick.
Bronco Watch
Cosgriff continues to lead the Broncos in points with six (2G, 2A). He notched assist No. 2 on Mitchell's goal against Cal on Sept. 12. Senior Brian Martin has also netted two goals and has four points thus far. In goal, Kevin Klasila has a 1.38 goals-against average and has collected eight saves.
In the WCC
As a team, the Broncos are tied for fourth place in West Coast Conference with a 1-4-1 overall record. SCU is fourth in points and goals, while six different players are ranked individually. Scouting San Jose State
The Spartans enter the midweek contest with a 3-1-2 overall record. In its last outing, SJSU defeated Seattle, 2-1. Scoring for the Spartans were Hiroki Akiyama and Efrain Burgos, Jr. On the season, Akiyama leads the squad with six points (2G, 2A), while Lewis Sweeney has seen the majority of the action between the posts with a 0.94 GAA and 11 saves.

Sept. 20. 2007 - The Broncos posted a 2-0 sweep of the Spartans with All-American Peter Lowry scoring both goals for SCU.

Scouting Stanford
The Cardinal enters the weekend with a 2-3-1 overall record. Stanford will look to snap its two-game drought against SCU this weekend. In their last outing, the Cardinal fell to Drake 2-1. Stanford's lone goal was scored by Tom Montgomery in the 84th minute. Bobby Warshaw leads the squad with five points (2G, 1A), while John Moore has a 0.96 GAA and 22 saves thus far.

SCU will take to the road for three straight contests to open the 2008 WCC schedule. In their next contest, the Broncos battle the Pilots of Portland on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in Portland, Ore. Santa Clara then takes on Gonzaga on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. in Spokane, Wash.
