SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis will put its 4-1 record to the test this weekend when it hosts Nevada on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT and UNLV on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. Both matches will be played on campus at Degheri Tennis Center.
"We had two really strong tests last weekend on the road at LSU and Tulane," head coach Niall Angus said. "Those are two very strong teams where it was easy for our guys to be excited to play against them and we had some success. Now the important part is that we're able to keep that energy up on a match-by-match basis."
The Broncos enter the weekend with just one loss on the year to Tulane, a team receiving votes in the latest Division I Men's National Team Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings.
Sophomore Robert Seby boasts a 5-6 record for the year and is 3-2 on court one for the Broncos this year. Sophomore Andrew Gu is 3-2 playing on court two for the Broncos and has won seven of his last 10 matches. Sophomore Connor Garnett has also gone 7-3 in his last 10 matches and is 4-1 on court three to start dual match play.
Freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas boasts a 3-1 record on court four for SCU. Freshman Vasileios Iliopoulos is 4-1 in match play (1-0 on court four and 3-1 on court five), including the clinching win for the Broncos at LSU last weekend. Sophomore Kamran Khan is 1-0 on court five this year and 3-1 on court six.

"This weekend we play two tough teams," Angus said. "It's a chance to prove to ourselves and everybody else that the LSU result is our level and it wasn't a one-time deal. We're looking to improve on that performance and grow stronger as a team throughout the season."
Nevada is 1-0 on the year and will play UC Santa Cruz on Friday before facing the Broncos Saturday afternoon. Currently, sophomore Jonathan Aremon (10-6) and freshman Julien Evrard (10-7) lead the Pack with 10 wins each.
UNLV is currently 4-0 after sweeping a quartet of teams in their opening weekend. The Rebels downed New Mexico State 4-0, Weber State 4-2, Youngstown State 4-0 and UC Riverside 4-0. UNLV will play Stanford on Friday before squaring off with the Broncos on Sunday morning. Senior Jakob Amilon, who was honored as the Mountain West Player of the Week, went a combined 5-0 over the weekend while helping UNLV to a 4-0 mark in dual matches.
