SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University women's golf team will have the privilege of playing Monarch Dunes Golf Club's 'Old Course,' named one of "America's Top 50 Golf Courses for Women" by Golf Digest this coming Sunday and Monday, Oct. 2-3.
The Broncos will be among a seven-team women's field at Cal Poly's Firestone Grill Invitational. It marks the second tournament of the 2011-12 season for SCU, who had just three days of practice prior to its season-opener in Fort Collins, Colo. earlier this month.
"We're really excited about getting back on the golf course after our last event," said second-year Santa Clara head coach Krystal Kelly. "The team has had some great practices, and I feel each player is really challenging themselves to get better. Our goal at Monarch Dunes is to work on our course management and decrease our par four scoring average."
Kelly is armed with a pair of returning All-West Coast Conference honorees in senior Tamara Surtees and sophomore Taylor Camany (pictured). Highly-accomplished transfer Balbina Guajardo is among four newcomers who promise to add depth to the Broncos roster this season.

Women's Field (7 teams):* CSU Northridge (86), Seattle (98), CSU Fullerton (110), Cal Poly (132)#, UC Riverside (140), Santa Clara (156) and Cal Lutheran.
Details: A total of 12 men's teams and seven women's teams will be competing in three rounds over two days. The first and second rounds will be played consecutively on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The final round is scheduled for Monday with split tee times starting at 7:30 a.m.
