Women’s Golfer Qualifies for NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLISKristin Le of the Santa Clara women's golf team was rewarded for a stellar season by qualifying for the NCAA Division I regional in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Le, a two-time All-West Coast Conference selection, was one of six individuals selected to play in the regional, which features 18 teams and is set for May 8-10 at the UNM Championship Course at the University of New Mexico.

"I'm very excited for Kristin and our golf program," Santa Clara head coach Krystal Kelly said. "She has worked extremely hard this season, and her hard work is paying off."

The junior, who posted eight top-10 finishes on the season, including a seventh-place showing at last week's WCC Championships, is just the second golfer in school history to reach the NCAAs.

From each of the four regionals, six teams and three individuals not from one of the advancing schools will reach the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms, in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

"Playing in regionals will be an incredible experience," said Kelly, who was a member of the 2004 NCAA champion UCLA Bruins. "I'm excited because I've experienced it as a player but this will be my first trip as a coach. I think we will both embrace this trip."

Le competed in all 11 events this year, posting her second-career victory. She ranks second in school history in stroke average (75.84), including a career-best 74.34 in 2016-17. The Aiea, Hawaii, native won the Cal Poly Lady Mustang Invitational (Oct. 22-23) with a 7-under 137, just one stroke off the 36-hole school record.

"We are putting together a good plan in place for her practice next week," Kelly said. "However, we want to be consistent in our preparation."

Miki Ueoka is the only other Bronco to reach the NCAA regional. As a sophomore, she advanced to the 2009 Tempe, Arizona, regional.
