Athletics Excited to Have Aly Wagner ’03 on Six 2014 Soccer Broadcasts

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Scoring the game-winning goal of the Broncos' 2001 NCAA title game vs. UNC, Santa Clara is excited to welcome back Bronco women's soccer alumnus Aly Wagner '03! Wagner will work along side play-by-play announcer David Gentile as the color commentator on six Bronco soccer matches this fall.  Three of those matches will be in September, including Friday's tilt for the women vs. Notre Dame and the men's soccer match vs. Cal on Sept. 26. The pair will also call the women's match vs. Dayton and three West Coast Conference matches.

Wagner will also be featured on EyeBronco videos throughout the season with some behind-the-scenes looks at both men's and women's soccer programs.

"I am really excited about having the opportunity to call a number of the Santa Clara soccer games this fall," Wagner said. "I not only get to be involved with the game I love again, but I also am so blessed to be able to do it for a program I love. SCU is one the premier programs in the country so it is going to be a thrill to analyze both the men's and women's matches. This is something I have always wanted to do."

How To Watch
All matches will be streamed live free of charge on Stretch Internet. All Santa Clara home matches also feature a video feed live and free of charge.  The following is the broadcast schedule to feature announcers:

About Wagner and Gentile

Wagner won the prestigious 2002 MAC Hermann Trophy as the top collegiate player in the country. She scored 39 goals and is ranked third in program history with 49 assists. The former Bronco is Santa Clara's all-time leader in postseason goals (9) and game-winning goals (5), notching four NCAA Tournament game-winners with the national champion Broncos in 2001. Wagner either owns or shares every one of Santa Clara's NCAA tournament offensive records.

After Santa Clara, Wagner went on to win two Olympic Gold medals and tally 21 goals and 42 assists in 131 appearances with the U.S. Women's National Team. Her professional experience included time in the WUSA and WPL, as well as a season with Olympique Lyonnais in the French First Division.

Gentile — in his second year as the athletic department's Digital Media Manager — served as the radio voice of Bronco Baseball for 22 games in 2014. He has experience as a play-by-play announcer in soccer, baseball, basketball and football. Prior to Santa Clara, he served as a color commentator for Minor League Baseball's Orem Owlz (Angels affiliate) and play-by-play announcer for the California Collegiate League's San Luis Obispo Blues during the summer collegiate season in 2012.
