Huerta Named 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's Third Team All-American

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second time in as many years, Sofia Huerta of Santa Clara women's soccer has been honored on the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-America Team. Huerta was a Third Team selection and was one of three West Coast Conference players to receive honors.

"I am humbled to be chosen as an All-American," said Huerta. "Anytime hard work is recognized, it is an accomplished feeling. There is absolutely no way I could have done this without my teammates. Their work ethic was constantly pushing me to work harder and be better. I'll never be able to thank them for that. Of course I have to say thank you to Jerry Smith because he has transformed me into the soccer player that I am today. "

"Being named All-American is the crown jewel in college athletics awards," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "I couldn't be happier for Sofia to be acknowledged for the second straight year. I'm sure she'll be the first to thank her teammates for helping her scored 17 goals. She's very deserving of this award. She's going to continue to have a great career in soccer past college but it was nice to see her able to achieve this in her senior year."

Huerta was second in the conference with 17 goals and 37 points. She attempted 94 shots and 49 on goal while scoring a WCC-best six game-winners. She accounted for over 50% of the Broncos goals this year. This is the 10th time a Bronco as won WCC Player of the Year.
