Eight Women's Soccer Players Honored for Work in the Classroom

Eight Women's Soccer Players Honored for Work in the Classroom

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Santa Clara women's soccer had eight players recognized on the 2014 West Coast Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic Team. Sofia Huerta and Andi Tostanoski were named to the team while Megan Crosson, Kat McAuliffe, Katie Speidel, Stephanie Sorg, Julie Vass, and Dani Weatherholt were honorable mention. Huerta was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team selection.

"I'm very, very proud to have eight players on the All-Academic Team," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "That speaks well of our program and that these players are truly student-athletes. We emphasize that here at Santa Clara University. I'm also happy that our two captains were named to the team in Sofia and Andi. As captains, you're very much in a leadership role. They are leading for us in practice and on game days, but also in the classroom. These are the perfect examples of what we want to see out of our student-athletes and particularly our team leaders."

The Broncos wrap-up their regular season on Sat., Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. vs. Saint Mary's on Senior Day. A win would give Santa Clara second place in the always-competitive WCC and help with their bid to make the NCAA Tournament for the 25th time.
